Eksqueeze Me?
Nyla has recently been looking for a girlfriend. If you're interested, have a look. In just a matter of only a few hours, she already had a reply. It was from a lesbian in the area who was interested in her; there discussion was very interesting, but there was definitely a miscommunication:
landers: so heres a question for you...your profile says your married...is that correct?
landers: not much of a partier...not till things go well
Nyla: yeah. i am polyamorous
Nyla: i dont know how familiar you are with the term
Nyla: basically an open marriage
Nyla: he has a girlfriend
Nyla: i havent dated in a long while
Nyla: does that bother you?
landers: i know what the term means
landers: im catholic, i believe once youre married thats it
Nyla: polyamorous means "many loves", basically. it'd the idea that you can be in more than one loving relationship at a time. We arent swingers or anything, that is a much different lifestyle.
So she wasn't interested in the polyamorous relationship: not a big deal. That does come up when trying to meet new people. The thing that is the kicker is this:
landers: i have a friend who is a breeder in a polyamory community
Nyla: a breeder?
landers: yes, she has children for the men in the community
...
Nyla: the way your poly friend lives isnt the way all poly people live
...
landers: she moved away to get away from it. She was tired of getting knocked up all the time
Nyla: i just worry that a lot of people think that the way your friend lives is the way we all live
...
Nyla: but there are a lot of us living very happy, healthy lives
Nyla: where one person is not used as a baby factory
landers: well most dont advertise it
landers: i love the way you put that, a "baby factory"
Excuse me? I've been in the polyamorous community for quite some time, and this is not something I've ever heard of. I think she's had a very misleading experience when it comes to polyamorous. So for everyone in the community that thinks people just ignore us or don't know what we are: you really need to help explain it. There are obviously people that have a strange misconception of what it is that we do with our lives. It's disappointing.
